BOOST YOUR PRODUCTIVITY VIA THESE SLACK HACKS

Publish date:

Salesforce Slack is a business communication platform developed by the American software company Slack Technologies. It offers many IRC-style features, including persistent chat rooms organized by topic, private groups, and direct messaging. Slack is the platform that connects people, information, and tools together to get work done. From FTSE 100 companies to family-run shops, millions of people around the world use Slack to connect their teams, unify their systems, and fuel their growth.

Let's see how to boost your productivity via these neat hacks of Slack:

Share your profile and availability - After creating your profile etc on Slack, it is a good idea to enable your profile and availability conspicuous for all to see. This lets others know when to engage with you as well if you are the right to include in any conversations/discussions etc. It's a good idea to complete the personal profile as much as you can / want to enable your audience to know as much as possible about you. If you move away from your workstation, it’s a good idea to keep your status up to date. This lets others know when they can expect you to read their messages and reply, while Slack’s Do Not Disturb feature limits untimely interruptions.

Stay focused to avoid distractions - Like with any communication tool, slack can be distracting. Therefore, as your work/projects increase, you are likely to experience more activities in channels as well as notifications. It is here that one needs to step back and get organised. Modify your preferences for alerts for every new message sent in a conversation – or to receive none at all. You may silence notifications for conversations that are not that important/relevant. Plus, you can leave channels and re-join at will.

Organise the work - Slack is gaining in popularity with users and is becoming a preferred tool of communication as compared to emails etc. As you join more channels, your sidebar will get bigger too. It is here that organising yourself by creating sections to assist the segmentation of channels into custom categories is advised.  You may segment them by projects, teams, or the type of work you’re doing. You may also segment the channels in each section. Keep important messages in focus by saving them and returning them whenever you wish to in the sidebar.

Pull in the right people into specific conversations - It is in your best interest to know ways to get certain people's attention on Slack. The first way is the use of @mentions to get a specific person's attention. Like I can use @vinay or @nouman in my office to get their attention regarding a conversation etc.  You may also get the attention of a group of people by using the @group name to draw/get their attention. For drawing the attention of more people, post messages on public platforms. Information meant for the eyes of select people is best posted on private platforms.
