Digital marketing as a career is one of the top new careers for the coming few years. Lots of youngsters are jumping on this bandwagon, and rightly so. In this two-part blog series, we examine the reasons why digital marketing is gaining popularity around the world. Let’s get down to it.
-
Shift away from traditional marketing. Legacy marketing strategies are no longer in vogue. Print, TV, and radio advertisements in conjunction with door-to-door home visits are no longer holding centers. With the advent of technology, the younger generation is spending more time on social media channels and tech platforms. Hence, digital marketing is the future of today and tomorrow. Don’t you wish to be a part of tomorrow?

Digital is the new buzzword. The world over, companies are moving to digital marketing. This includes family-run and small businesses, the rules of marketing are changing big time. Digital marketing means less investment and headaches, and the reach is wider. Anyway, traditional and digital marketing can exist side by side. Can they not? Who says they have to be adversaries? Those seeking to profit from celebrity endorsements are using traditional sources of marketing, while others are disregarding them for economic reasons (that is digital sources) for brand awareness, etc. All varieties of items and services are now marketed via digital mediums, as this platform is proving to be reliable over time. Boutique hotels in Uttarakhand, home chefs in Karnataka, and arts & crafts producers in Arunachal are going the digital way.

3. Reaching global audiences. The traditional means of marketing are outdated because they also limit the reach of the brand. Print advertisements are limited to subscribers, radio channels to listeners, and TV audiences to viewers of different channels. This does not apply to digital audiences, which extend to all geographies. With such a vast range, more people are placing their bets and money on digital marketing tools. So now a beautician in Colombia, a baker in the UK, an artist in Congo, and a farmer in Brunei have access to smartphones, social media, and advertisements (subtle and not so subtle) from brands around the world. In short, the reach of these social media channels is immense, and connecting with anyone at any time is a reality.

4. Digital marketing courses are becoming commonplace. Like the Codleo Foundation offering free digital marketing courses to bright young talents with a creative & analytical edge, courses are being offered in all destinations by various academies/institutions on a both physical and online attendance basis. Plus, they come with hands–on (practical) experience so that the students can go out into the world prepared to land jobs and lucrative careers.
Digital marketer with Codleo Consulting, Akansha, says, “ A career for the creative, the analytical, and the smart person. Its complexities and variations make each day a new day. Every day, there are new challenges and issues that keep you hungry for success.”.
