TIPS ON WRITING ALLURING SUBJECT CONTENT

Publish date:

The subject line of an email can be compared to the title of a film.  It is a sneak peek to the reader of the content of the email. A compelling subject line can evoke curiosity in a reader/prospect to go beyond the subject line and deep dive into the email itself. Thus your click rate is higher and the chances of conversion to sale/action are greater. So, if you want your hard work in drafting appealing emails to pay off, then this blog is for you. Fire up your email engagement will our tips on writing catchy email subjects.

Listed are tips on writing alluring subject content especially for you:

  • Create a sense of urgency. This is an ideal way to get some readers to respond / take action. By mentioning a start and end date to a particular promotion etc, readers going through their inbox will be drawn to the messaging of how they will benefit via the window of opportunity.

  • Draw the curiosity of the reader / recipient. You can draw upon the innate curiosity of humans with a tantalising line that evokes mystery /   enigma. The line can read as “ discover ways to improve your skin tone” or “ Give your dog the best meal they ever had “.  The subject line as revealed by these two examples evokes curiosity yet is in sync with the brand (and it's messaging).

  • Offers, schemes, and discounts related text. No one can resist a good deal / bargain for sure. It’s human nature. Use it to your advantage. If your company has anything to offer, mention it explicitly in the subject line and see the click rates shoot through the roof. Personally, I am drawn to emails that offer benefits etc as compared to other random emails.

  • Personalise the emails. Send relevant emails to the audience so that they open the email as it resonates with them. With all the data on various clients / leads thanks to tech tools, personalisation is now very real. Clients expect emails that concern / relate to them, and not generic emails.

  • Keep the subject line as short and simple as you can. Long and dawdling subject lines get chopped especially if viewed on cell phones.  As most people now view their emails on their mobile phones, it’s important to ensure that subject lines are conveyed in immediate view.  Keep your subject line to a maximum of 50 characters.

  • Use the names of the recipients in the subject line. With digital tools available to personalise the emails, the same can be done for the subject line as well. Begin the line with – Rahul, get a 10% off on kurtas. With everyone looking for personalisation, success is within reach.

  • Create multiple subject lines with varying tones and tenors. Have it reviewed by your colleagues and get their feedback. Varying opinions will help in settling on the aptest subject line.
