STEPS TO START A CAREER AS A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

Young Angad Singh, in the last few years of his school, was confused & worried about his career plans and what course to pursue in college. His extended family gave him a host of suggestions, as did his peers. This added to his confusion. It’s only when he went to a reputed career counsellor near his home that the cobwebs in his mind cleared. After intensive engagement with the counsellor, it turned out that his aptitude was geared towards Information Technology and allied industries.  The counselor gave him tips and suggestions, one of which was the career path of a Software developer. This made him feel lighter, and he felt he had a goal, a purpose in life. 

Who exactly is a software developer? They are the genius minds behind computer programs. They create applications that enable users to do specific tasks on a desktop or other devices. They also create the underlying systems that run the devices or that control networks.

Here are some tips for those who wish to make their careers in Software development:

• The first step is to learn how businesses operate. Learn about their ways by taking up the roles of interns/trainees, where you get valuable experience on-the-job. The better the company or famous, the better it looks on your resume.

• It’s always good to learn software languages such as Java. It’s good to learn languages that are used in cloud computing. Javascript is expected to be mandatory for all those who wish to take up roles in Salesforce development.

• Develop your network of contacts. As you learn about software development, start connecting with peers, batch mates. You could join various groups on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.

• Focus on Declarative Features before getting into coding. Declarative functionality like workflows and process builders generally work well enough for most situations and are usually easier to maintain.

• If you wish to make a career as a developer with Salesforce, the world’s leading CRM then you can sign-up for their free customer accounts (orgs) which are meant for developers to test features and write apex. It contains most of the features of Salesforce. Use it while learning about Salesforce and its many ways.

• Work on your soft skills. These will help you get an edge in job interviews over dozens of other competitors.

• Coding, coding, and coding. Make it an integral part of your life. Practice daily and learn all about programming languages.
