SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS TO BE MINDFUL FOR 2021

Social media and its various platforms have gained importance and relevance in our lives especially in 2020 thanks to lockdowns and people being stuck at home. Use or turning into content providers because people are spending more time on social media and see it as an avenue of revenue generation is on the rise. Social media trends change and here we have compiled some trends for 2021 and beyond.

Here are some social media trends for us to be mindful of in the future: 

• Less is more. In the future, instead of churning outposts on various platforms on a daily basis will take a backseat. Businesses will put outposts that are meaningful and relevant, spaced out so as not to overwhelm or irritate the customer base. Thoughtful and valuable posts with information will be the order of the day. 

• The production quality of videos to take a backseat.  The videos will need to be edited and refined using the best equipment and intervention. Quirky videos with rough edges shot at home, using phones, etc, with no studios or equipment are gaining traction. This will be the trend for 2021 and beyond. Thus, the necessity of 2020 thanks to the Covid 19 pandemic is turning into a virtue for many. This is an important trend to be borne in mind by marketing personnel/teams. 

• Posts and conversations will be more informative and imparting education. Hardcore branding and selling will be on the back burner, so to say.  The tone of messaging will be on helping people, giving tips, advice, a more thoughtful tone, and empathy.  

• Short-form content to gain traction. Short videos doling out relevant information will rule as it has this year in various formats on social media, be it Instagram reels or any other. As the attention span shrinks, short-form content / the video will be preferred. 

• Videos are the king. All marketing departments need to pay heed to this. Create content in video format. It’s the preferred form of social media branding and infotainment.  Video consumption is on an upward mode and will see steady growth in the years to come.  

• Live videos. Live streaming will be one of the hottest trends for social media and marketing in the years to come. In 2019, 20% of Facebook videos were live. As of now, many companies are using Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to live stream events and other types of content which keep people hooked.  

• Social media platforms should have the capability to double up as shopping channels. It means that people can directly shop from these platforms instead of going to a company website or third-party site or another platform. Instant purchase from the first point of contact i.e. social media platform.  

Social media is constantly evolving and businesses have to keep pace to ace the market. Hopefully above the above tips will help you to refine your social media strategy for the future to keep you relevant and engaged with your audience base.
