The current ongoing pandemic has compelled management of all types and sizes of companies to accelerate digital business, but this warrants a shift in work habits, and unfortunately, this is not happy to inculcate among the staff. Speeding up is not limited to technology only. It requires a deliberate re-imagination of the ways in which work is carried out, processes are undertaken and decisions are made, thus allowing companies and their employees to be more agile to adjust to emerging scenarios.
The important tips to speed up the digital business are:
-
“ No “ is not an option. The leadership should not encourage others to only come up with negativity nor should it be present in them. Ensure you reframe the negative in such a way that you seek information, especially for new or unfamiliar ideas.
-
One decision maker. Let all the powers to make decisions be vested in one person and that person should be accessible to all. Everyone should know who that person is so that time is not lost.
-
As a company leader / manager, it’s important to engage with people who are likely to be out of sync with your decisions / choices. Allay their concerns / fears so that decision making is speeded up.
-
Set time for any task. For example, a day’s time is adequate to create an initial draft / prototype.
-
Encourage new and bold ideas from youngsters. Invite young employees to present their ideas / thoughts on how to improve work or simplify things and so on.
-
Hold an open house meeting in which everyone is allowed to contribute, thrash out plans & policies, and discard old policies & ways of work. The reasoning behind it is to minimise the culture of negativity and toxic attitudes.
Change must come from the top with the company leaders leading the charge. Begin by laying down the new values and insisting that the existing ones are adhered to. They have to be then linked to all actions, behaviours, and tasks by the employees.
