GUIDE TO SEO FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Publish date:

For small businesses to thrive, it is very important to get their processes and actions together at the very outset. It is in this context that their digital marketing strategy is formulated, with the flexibility to modify and improve with time.  Digital marketing is an excellent way to reach large audiences spread across geographies using a fraction of financial resources as compared to other means of marketing. An essential component of digital marketing is SE0 and content for the same. This is the focus of this blog.

SEO, or search engine optimisation is a technical term that refers to the means to enhance the visibility of the company's website on various search engines, such as Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Qwant, and the most famous of them all, which we all use in our daily lives. I am sure you know which search engine I am referring to by now. For any small business to grow, it is important to focus all their energy on this'mother' of all search engines.  When a person searches for something on the search engine and chooses to visit a specific website from the search results displayed, it is known in SEO parlance as "organic traffic''.  These are visitors to your website who come via a natural process and not due to the results of any efforts such as paid marketing.

Here are some suggestions for your website and SEO promotion:

Be clear about the aim of your website and what products, services, or solutions you are bringing to the market.  At the very outset, you need to link your goals with the value proposition you are bringing to the table. Have you created a website to let the world know about you and your services and products? Are you an online or e-commerce store? Or is it a portal that provides solutions and answers? Or is your website an amalgamation of everything? Make sure you know these things before moving forward.

SEO works on the basis of a careful selection of keywords. Make sure that they are carefully researched and relevant to your business. The main question you, as the owner / manager of a small business, need to ask yourself is: what types of search words, sentences, / terms will direct traffic to your website?  The key words that need to be identified or optimised must be connected to your value proposition.

Strategic placement of keywords. It is ideal if the keywords are placed in the page title and URL. The Google search engine is more than happy if keywords are placed within the URL. Tip: Create a separate landing page on your website if the main page doesn’t contain the specific keyword. Keywords can also be placed within the meta description.  A search engine won't enhance a website’s search ranking based on keywords in meta descriptions, but it will place them in bold text in the search results. Thus, the audience is alerted to the synergy.

Website content must include keywords. The content should revolve around the keywords that need to be optimised. If you face issues figuring out how to include keywords in your web text, then try creating a reference to the context around them.
