DIGITAL MAKEOVER FOR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AROUND THE WORLD

Publish date:

Irrespective of the ongoing pandemic unleashed by the novel coronavirus, a digital and tech makeover for all industries was required. The lockdown and losses suffered by all industries worldwide just hastened the process. Everyone is now aware of the power of digital and tech makeovers. They realise how technology can be one’s best friend to keep floating and even hiving in a highly competitive market.  In this blog, we will examine the issue for one particular industry: education. At least in India, a majority of educational institutions of any size and shape have shied away from digital improvements.

Educational institutes around the world (not just India) are not open to embracing technology, unfortunately.  There are many reasons for this. We can list them out as follows:

  • Reluctance to embrace new technologies stems from a lack of interest or the urge to step out of the “comfort zone” of employees of different institutions. They are happy as they are and don’t wish to make the extra effort.

  • Inadequately trained manpower exists in these institutions to lead or manage these digital makeovers. Educational institutions need to pay attention to the continuous learning of their staff to ensure the benefits of digital transformation are achieved.

  • Expenses are involved, with many institutions facing cutbacks on their funds for a variety of reasons.

  • Not being “woke“ to the need for digital makeover and its many advantages.

  • Absence of digital makeover strategy by the top management. A starting point and a fool proof strategy are hard to come by in this industry but are deemed absolutely necessary.

  • Data is all over the place. With data scattered and in different sources, there is reluctance to invest time and energy to collect, clean and use for digital changes. A lot needs to be done to get the data accurate and clean.  Plus, one needs help figuring out how to get this data working for the schools, colleges and institutes. This could be in the form of overview and data analysis to make tough decisions.

Here are some great solutions for educational institutions to achieve digital makeover:
  • Invest in your personnel. Train, up-skill or reskill existing employees for them to lead the makeover and follow in line to ensure end-user adoption. Companies in the education sector need to provide training and education that lets staff receive the much-needed skills to evolve their roles over time. Thus, paving the way for transformation.

  • Partner with a good IT company to implement all changes, provide training and support services.

  • A digital makeover strategy needs to be drawn up by the company leadership, concerned departments in conjunction with the hired IT partner. The strategy also incorporates technologies needed for innovations. This is followed by a plan of action with timelines, costs, and other measurable actions.

  • Be open to new technologies such as Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and so on.

  • Be open to automation of systems to make life easier for all.  Everyone will be happy, and productivity improved.
