“Yes, your transformation will be hard. Yes, you will feel frightened, messed up, and knocked down. Yes, you’ll want to stop. Yes, it’s the best work you’ll ever do.”  - Quote by Author Robin Sharma.

Though over time it is inevitable that all companies using Salesforce will have to switch to the lightening version but the many companies who have not to need to know for themselves the various benefits which will accrue as well as the challenges, they need to be aware of while making the migration to salesforce lightning.

The benefits of Salesforce Lightning version are:

  • There are as many as 2000 features that are available with the lightning version which is missing on the classic version. This should be more than enough reason to move over. Imagine all the features you or your business etc are losing out on.

  • The lightning version has increased the productivity of each person, each team which leads to win-win for the company. The benefits of using this version include enhanced collaboration between team members/teams, innovation, access to better features, saving of time, improved processes, and streamlining of work, and overall results for the business are better.

  • Saving of costs can be achieved through the lightning version as it is cheaper for custom development and app support.  To begin with, Salesforce improved customization options, therefore, eliminating the need to hire a Salesforce developer.

  • The lightning version is more innovation-friendly as compared to the Classic version. Hence, it’s time to consider Migration to salesforce lightning as early as possible.

The challenges of Migration to salesforce lightning are:

  • Third-party apps would need to be upgraded to a version compatible with lightning.

  • If your current classic version has many visual customizations (tabs and page layouts), then the same will have to be taken into account and actioned. These curated components can pose a big challenge as a direct migration without proper planning might lead to an overload of technical debt, and even performance issues.

  • Migration to salesforce lightning without proper planning/analysis can lead to issues in performance such as low responsiveness of pages, greater load time, complexity in navigation through the forms, and scalability in general.

  • Resistance from the end-users who are basically employees/team members.  Mental resistance and struggles to adjust to new features etc may derail the migration.

  • Adoption of all features of the lightning version slows down the efficiency as well as has a bearing on the overall user experience. Therefore, it's best to retain only those features which will be used to ensure optimal use of this version.

A  considered and well-thought move by all stakeholders is the way forward.  Nothing in haste should be done to derail the process to an enhanced version of salesforce which will empower your business. Contact us for your migration, we are here at your service.
