Cloud computing enhances collaboration

Publish date:

If someone asks me what cloud computing is, I try not to get bogged down with definitions. I tell them that, simply put, cloud computing is a better way to run your business.”- Quote by Marc Benioff, Founder, CEO, and Chairman, Salesforce

The 21st century is the age of fast moving technologies and digital changes. The breath taking speed at which tech is changing is leaving us gasping for air and asking for more. Every day if not every week new changes are being heralded seeking to better our lives and make our jobs much more efficient. One of the biggest changes to enter our professional lives is cloud computing. Cloud computing is defined as the accessibility of computer system resources, particularly data storage and computing power, without straight active management by the business or its employees. The term refers to data centres (or storage facilities) over the internet for use by many people.

Getting companies to switch to businesses is not easy because of resistive to change and the move to a “non premises” data centre to which everyone is so comfortable. In order for this switch to happen, the lead and directive need to come from the top management. They need to set the course and others fall into line.  To convince the company management that cloud computing is a great idea, let’s look at their benefits.

  1. Productivity increases for each company employee. With all data, records, and files on the cloud, people can access and use them anywhere, and anytime. There is no dependency to be tied to physical office space hence one is free to work whether at the airport in Aizwal, in a cab in Moga or a coffee shop in Cuttack. It could be making people productive early morning, on the weekend and late evenings, beyond the scope of most companies’ business hours.

  2. It enhances collaboration among people and teams. This is one of its biggest benefits. With all data available to all and files can be shared, no more silos and departments working in cross purposes.  Now everyone can work hand – in – hand to the betterment of the company, their departments, and themselves. Company goals are better achieved due to collaboration thanks to cloud services

  3. The volume of data available allows the top management to plan, strategize and take quick action. Cloud computing allows for informed decision making for the success of the company.  Data is king and is the main factor in success or failure. Use the data to gain valuable insights and take appropriate actions.  For example, if a marketing campaign is working or not.

  4. There is no fear of loss of important company records, data, and files due to human or tech error. Everything is safe and one doesn't need to take back-ups on discs, or pen drives.  Everything remains intact for easy access and use.

As you can see, cloud computing has many benefits for companies and their CEOs. It’s time for them to shake off their fears and inertia, to adopt cloud computing, and rake in the fruits of their labour.
